Motion vector inheritance method for fast HEVC encoding

In this paper, a motion vector inheritance method is proposed in order to reduce motion estimation complexity of the high efficiency video coding (HEVC) encoder. The proposed method refers to the coded-block-flag (CBF) of 2JV × 2JV prediction unit (PU) to see whether or not its sub-partitioned PU ca...

Summary:In this paper, a motion vector inheritance method is proposed in order to reduce motion estimation complexity of the high efficiency video coding (HEVC) encoder. The proposed method refers to the coded-block-flag (CBF) of 2JV × 2JV prediction unit (PU) to see whether or not its sub-partitioned PU can inherit the motion vector of the 2JV × 2JV PU without actual motion estimation. Experimental results show total encoding time reduction of 26.2% and 27.0% under random access condition and low delay condition, respectively, with only 0.5% BDBR loss.
