Networked Virtual Machine Placement in Edge Cloud Systems

In this paper, we study the networked virtual machine (VM) placement problem in the edge cloud system with a two-layer star topology. Firstly, for a one-layer wireless compute cluster, we propose one optimal algorithm to minimize the total inter-node communication cost in the cluster. Secondly, for...

Summary:In this paper, we study the networked virtual machine (VM) placement problem in the edge cloud system with a two-layer star topology. Firstly, for a one-layer wireless compute cluster, we propose one optimal algorithm to minimize the total inter-node communication cost in the cluster. Secondly, for the two-layer edge cloud system, we design another algorithm to minimize the total inter-node communication cost in the system. Thirdly, we study the job placement problem under the multi-tenant scenario, which is NP-hard. A heuristic algorithm is proposed to give an efficient solution. The evaluation results validate the efficiency of our algorithms.
