Summary:10kV cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables are widely used in power system because of its advantages of small external influence factors and high reliability and safety. However, cable accessories are weak links of the cable lines. Considering the hot and humid environment in Guangzhou areas, the applicability of cold and hot shrinkable cable accessories is questionable. This paper has carried out the research on the applicability of two kinds of cable accessories. Firstly the cable accessories operating and common faults were researched and analyzed. Secondly the defect simulation is carried out, including four kinds of conditions: (1) the main insulation with air gap, (2) the main insulation with impurities, (3) the connecting pipe with burr, (4) semi conductive layer uneven. Also the situation of electric field distortion is analyzed. Then the experiment and analysis is done to investigate the cable accessories materials affected by hydrothermal environment, mainly focusing on the electrical performance and sealing performance. Finally the research on the cable accessories installation technology and specification in Guangzhou area is carried out, and the cold and hot shrinkable cable accessories installation suggestions are recommended. The heat shrinkable accessories in the southern humid areas are not very suitable.
