Summary:This paper presents an overview on distributed generation (DG) integration into distribution systems and a series of study cases to emphasize the impact of DG over voltage profiles and power losses variation in distribution systems. The main effects of DG integration addresses various technical aspects concerning the design, the planning and the operation of present day distribution systems. Among these, the authors approach reverse power flow, voltage control, flicker and power quality, protection and anti-islanding systems, thermal ratings and congestions, and power losses. Based on the general description provided, the authors present a case study to emphasize the effect of DG integration over the voltage profile and power losses.
