Summary:This paper presents a novel two-dimensional wind speed and direction sensor. Based on the principles of optics and statics, a two-dimensional wind speed and direction sensor with optical fiber as the sensitive component is described. Firstly, the input/output relationship of the proposed wind sensor is derived. Secondly, the designed physical model for the proposed sensor is given, in which a light source, a vertically cantilevered optical fiber, a planar array CCD and a signal processing circuit are included. Finally, the correctness of the theoretical calculation is verified using wind tunnel experiments.
