Application study of SMES to power conditioning in high-speed railways

Summary:Power conditioning in the feeder lines of high-speed railways is studied for the application of SMES, regarding peak-cut and phase-balance at the point of common connection to the supply network. In order to reduce converter costs, SMES is supposed to be connected to the single-phase power feeder to trains. The simulation studies show that conditioning can be realized successfully against train operation with a connection scheme of SMES to between windings of the Scott-transformer respectively.
