Summary: | We review advances in realizing waveguide devices in two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PCs). In particular, the properties of transmission spectra and out-of-plane losses are addressed. We also present results on the characterization and modelling of waveguides obtained as line defects in periodic arrays of holes deeply etched through a InP/InPGaAsP heterostructure. The observed and modeled mode gaps in the transmission spectra are discussed. |
