Summary: | This paper describes a PSS tuning toolbox recently developed for utility applications. This toolbox is based on the proven techniques in PSS design and tuning and it is aimed at meeting various objectives of damping controls using PSS. The key idea is to adopt an approach in which the entire process of tuning a PSS is automated. The toolbox works directly on power system models used for conventional stability studies and it performs the essential computations by calling commercial-grade software tools. This ensures the best modeling compatibility, consistent computation algorithms, and thus the validity of the results. The advantages of this toolbox are illustrated by examples with a very large system model. |
