Summary:In motor drive application, a high switching frequency is required in order to mitigate current harmonics which cause a copper loss. However, the high switching frequency makes the switching loss large. Hence, some switching loss reduction techniques have been studied before. However, they requires complicated circuits. This paper proposes a multilevel inverter topology for a switching loss reduction. By changing current paths, the proposed inverter realizes the zero current switching. It was experimentally verified that the proposed inverter realizes the zero current switching by a foundation circuit.
