In line measurements of blood gases during ECC-fluorescence vs. absorptiometry

This study compares two inline monitors using two types of sensors based on physicochemical methods using either fluorescence absorptiometry or polarography for the determination of blood gas pH, PO/sub 2/ and PCO/sub 2/ during extracorporeal circulation (ECC) with membrane oxygenators. The determin...

Summary:This study compares two inline monitors using two types of sensors based on physicochemical methods using either fluorescence absorptiometry or polarography for the determination of blood gas pH, PO/sub 2/ and PCO/sub 2/ during extracorporeal circulation (ECC) with membrane oxygenators. The determination of other parameters (blood flow rate, hemoglobin, etc.) allows the gaseous transfers of the device and its efficiency to be calculated continuously. Software has been developed to control several parameters in order to obtain physiological conditions at the outlet of the membrane oxygenator.< >
