Summary:While the Bundle Protocol Security (BPSec) includes capabilities for the creation of security policies, it lacks specifications or guidance for common threats against space missions. This work analyzes suitable security policies and evaluates their implications for key management and security operations. We emphasize the crucial role played by security verifiers in the detection of potential threats. In this context, we underscore the inherent trade-offs that exist between the provisioning of cryptographic keys and the associated risks of security breaches. Our study unveils new challenges and potential solutions associated with BPSec implementation in Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) environments, encouraging further study in this domain.
