Summary:To improve the calculation efficiency of reliability assessment, this paper presents a heuristic approach to local load shedding scheme. The basic ideas of the proposed method are to search the node sets to conduct load curtailment which can alleviate system problems effectually according to local load shedding principle and through power flow tracing in the vicinity of the failed system components. The proposed model is very efficient because it avoids the global optimization of the whole system to get the optimal load shedding amount. The RBTS and IEEE-RTS79 power systems are evaluated by the developed algorithm. From the results, we conclude that the algorithm can effectively reduce the calculation demand while keeping the required accuracy, and provide an excellent solution to alleviate the calculation bottleneck of reliability assessment
