Summary:The problem of development of system for monitoring renewable energy sources (RES) in the Republic of Kazakhstan is discussed. New information and communication technologies (ICT) become the technological basis for large scale monitoring. Wireless sensor networks, inter-machine communication system (Machine-to-Machine - M2M), broadband networks based on new communication protocols, machine learning system and etc. compose a kernel of new ICT. Combining such disparate technologies within smart grids and using GIS for visualization presents strong interest for researchers both in terms of system architecture, economic indicators and security. The paper focused on the discussion of the elements of new technologies that could be used to develop renewable sources monitoring system. The architecture principles and technologies that could be applied for implementation of such system are discussed. Also several examples of monitoring systems and technology aspects which underlie such systems have been reviewed.
