Summary: | With conventional communications equipment, the purpose of lightning protection is protection against overvoltage and overcurrent that cause insulation breakdown in hardware. However, in recent information and communication technology and Internet-of-things equipment, not only the above measures but also countermeasures against data errors that cause CPU stack, device freeze and large-scale system downtime triggered by malfunction are required. We propose a self-contained isolation system using surge-mitigation components with high-voltage insulation for overvoltage and data-error protection. It provides adequate protection against overvoltage and conduction common mode noise from metallic service lines of power, communication, and grounding and radiation noise due to lightning electromagnetic pulse. |
