Summary:The spread of high-quality, user-generated content across broadband networks is motivating even more users to share their content over well-known Internet social network services (SNSs). SNSs have attracted attention as possibly the most useful social network infrastructure. However, the capacities of SNS servers have limited the quality and available time for sharing content. In this paper, we propose a system that fuses the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) industry guideline with SNS, so that users can share high-quality DLNA content with other users over the Internet more easily and at faster speed. As the DLNA guideline applies to single home networks, it has been difficult to interconnect home networks over the Internet. We solved this problem by building a VPN connection between DLNA agents for SNS (DASs) and forwarding content between a DLNA device and a DAS using reverse proxy. This paper discusses the implementation details of the proposed system and an evaluation using a test bed that includes DLNA software products available in today's market.
