Summary: | In order to decrease impact of noise caused by nanometer devices and cosmic radiation in image processing area, stochastic computing system is proposed as a high fault tolerant computing structure. Implementation of image averaging is used to illustrate the advantages of stochastic computing, and both traditional computing architecture and stochastic computing architecture are implemented with TSMC 0.18um technology, the result shows that stochastic computing offers a much better capacity of fault tolerance compared with traditional computing method, and it is very flexible in design tradeoff between computing time, power consumption and chip area, which makes stochastic computing a better way to accomplish severe design requirements. |
