Summary:Tomographic systems using X-rays, capacitance, electrical resistance or electrical impedance have already been developed. This paper presented a new kind of tomographic system, the microwave tomographic system. The system consists of new imaging cells with air or water as a background medium, transmitting and receiving antennas matched to air or water, and an existing network analyser. On the other hand, a new nonlinear programming technique, the sequential quadratic programming method is introduced for the image reconstruction, which demonstrates the efficiency of the new system.
