Summary: | In this chapter, the author reflects on the past and current state of community engagement, he find himself hopeful. However, even though the number of partnerships continues to grow, it is all too common that community engagement work takes place through a partnership between a university and the community framed by a particular academic discipline. In addition to the need to break down barriers between academic departments and disciplines, there is also a need to break down barriers between institutions. The author have recently had the privilege of becoming part of Partners in Campus and Community Engagement (PICCE), a collaborative of community partners and higher education institutions in the greater Spokane, Washington area. Although PICCE is still developing and evolving, it is already having the desired impact in streamlining the partnership process between community partners and higher education institutions. |
