Summary:This chapter examines the main concerns and elements of regional policy in Korea over the past six decades. To share Korea’s experience in regional development with developing countries, this chapter briefly introduces the main thread of policy approaches to regional development. It then examines the context and background of Korea’s development as well as the evolving patterns of regional development in relation to industrial development and urbanization. The main part reviews policy responses to two major concerns: regional disparity and regional competitiveness. Finally, it summarizes the Korean experience in regional development and policy responses and draws a few implications for international development cooperation.
