Summary:The use of UAVs for various applications is a rapidly growing research field nowadays. Modeling the wireless radio propagation channel in urban environments is complex due to the presence of multipath phenomena - reflections, diffraction and scattering from objects in space. In this contribution the polarization behavior of UAV-to-ground links over multipath urban environments is investigated by using ray-tracing simulations. We found that for UAV-to-ground links with mid elevation angles, the probability of LOS is relatively high and the polarization diversity gain may diminish. Nevertheless, for low UAV flight altitudes with elevation angle of several degrees, than the LOS probability might be low and we can expect a significant polarization diversity gain.
