Summary:This paper presents wavelet transform based analysis to determine transmission line faults classification. The fault classification technique is developed on the basis of extensive simulation studies carried out on the power system model within the MATLAB Simiilink program for different operating conditions. Discrete wavelet transform has been applied on the fault current and the mean of approximate coefficients of the phase signals is calculated. Daubechies4 wavelet transform has been applied to decompose the phase signals into Scale 1 wavelet coefficient. The detection is carried out by analyzing the mean of approximate coefficients of the phase signals and the fault classification criteria are presented.
