Proposed physical layer optimization of guard band and subcarrier power in superchannels can increase maximum SE-Reach product by 62% in five-subcarrier DP-16-QAM systems. Subcarrier power optimization can extend reach by 21% in addition to 51% offered by 12.5GHz guard band.
