Summary:This paper examines the role of instructors in enhancing student learning experiences in makerspace settings. Makerspaces consist of either credit-bearing courses or student-led initiatives. Despite having the autonomy to organize and design events as part of student clubs, the lack of proper guidance and training results in lower levels of creativity and innovation among students. We present findings from surveys conducted across four makerspaces in our university that have a varying degree of instructor intervention. Results highlight that students gain an enriching learning experience in various dimensions such as design and failure opportunities with facilitative guidance.
