Summary:This paper proposes an approach coupling Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) and Multi-Disciplinary Analysis & Optimization (MDAO) to tackle challenges arising when optimizing Systems of Systems (SoS). It positions Model-Based System Engineering with UAF and MDAO methods among a typology of all Systems of Systems Enablers that are required to effectively implement Systems of Systems Engineering. This paper emphasizes on concrete differences that one can observes between Systems of Systems and "traditional" Systems and links these to specific enablers. This paper describes both the methodology developed and an Urban Air Mobility case study, so that the reader may better appropriate the proposed approach.
