Summary:Internet of Things (IoT) has been widely applied in architectural heritage preservation. To explore and summarize the new applications, a systematic review of the research in the last decade is made. In this study, we conducted comparative analyses of diverse technological approaches, algorithms, and platforms, while critically evaluating the limitations and challenges associated with IoT implementation in the context of architectural heritage protection. In this paper, the IoT applications in heritage conservation are introduced, the IoT devices for monitoring are listed, the distinctive features of IoT monitoring data are elucidated, and the data processing workflows and methodologies rooted in artificial intelligence (AI) are also expounded upon. This literature search endeavor serves to offer practitioners guidance in selecting appropriate technological solutions tailored to their specific requirements, thereby optimizing the efficacy of their practical applications.
