Summary:A Pierce-type sheet beam electron gun for a terahertz staggered double vane traveling wave tube (SDV-TWT) is designed, which can achieve high output power and broad bandwidth. With the combination of theoretical design and 3D simulation, an electron beam with uniform cross section can be achieved with beam voltage of 25 kV and beam current of 0.25 A. The distortion of beam edge is optimized by adjusting the aspect ratio of cathode and the focus angle of focusing electrode in width. Moreover, the detail design process is put forward to provide a systematic method to optimize the Pierce-type sheet beam electron gun for arbitrary terahertz vacuum devices.
