Summary:Gossip-based broadcasting and routing have been extensively studied in IP-based Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) owing to their ability to reduce the degrading impact of the broadcast storm problem. Named Dated Networking (NDN) has emerged as an alternative communication paradigm to replace the current host-centric TCP/IP networking model due to its attractive features including fast content dissemination and mobility support. However, there has been hardly any study that has explored the suitability of gossip-based interest forwarding for NDN over MANETs. In order to fill this gap, this paper analyzes the performance of gossip-based interest forwarding and compares it against that of the existing Deferred Blind Flooding (BDF) and Blind Flooding (DF) in NDN over MANETs. Our performance results demonstrate that the gossip-based forwarding strategy can exhibit superior performance over DBF and BF with respect to packet retransmissions, response time, and interest satisfaction ratio.
