Summary:Kinect depth camera has the advantages of low cost, convenient installation and no need to wear which has been widely used in many fields. In this paper, Kinect depth camera has been applied in upper limb joint angle measurement. Since the error of angle measurement should be less than 5° in medical diagnose, the measurement accuracy calibration of the camera has be conducted. Firstly, the optical motion capture device was used as the gold standard to evaluate the stability and accuracy of Azure Kinect. Then a camera calibration method using optimization algorithm to obtain coordinate transformation matrix is proposed. Finally, the calibration method is applied to the measurement of human upper limb joint angle. To investigate the calibration effect of shoulder joint abduction, protraction and external rotation. The results show that the motion angle error of the optimized shoulder joint is less than 2°.
