Summary:We present the development and characterization of an unconventional tooth-mesh antenna design. The proposed antenna is fabricated with standard PCB-based methods using FR-4 with a thickness of 0.6 mm. We use a small and compact tooth-mesh style of antenna in the shape of a quadrant. Feature sizes of the antenna are tuned for impedance and gain, whilst meeting low-cost milestones of commercial PCB fabrication processes. The presented antenna is tuned to 12.60 GHz with a gain of 3.83 dBi in simulations. Rapid prototyping of antenna devices remains low-cost at under 0.45 USD per board. Fabricated sample antennas demonstrate an 8 % shift in frequency to 13.64 GHz. Further experimental analysis and validated against the results from the simulation data is underway with the purpose of developing a non-intrusive and non-contact pH sensing system.
