Summary: | Prior knowledge of the behavior of a transformer's saturation curve is an essential information for simulating electromagnetic transient phenomena such as inrush. From that information, it's possible to identify the current and voltage levels to which the device will be subject during its energization. Different techniques employed in the modeling of the saturation curve are used with objectives directed to the simulation of this transient. Depending on which technique is used, the solution may contain inaccuracies and the simulation may be inefficient. In this work, three different techniques are applied in order to identify which one is more reliable to simulate energization. Among the evaluated techniques, the piecewise linearization method and the method of operating points are dependent on parameters that are often subjective and that cause inaccuracies. Besides, these techniques proved to have low efficiency because they depend on many processes during the solution of the problem. On the other hand, the technique involving the description of the curve via true non-linear equations added to adjustment of the final slope proved to be the most promising one, mainly because it has a good performance in terms of accuracy and because it is simple and quite efficient. |
