Summary:Transformers serve as the backbone of electricity transmission and distribution networks all over the world. Power transformers are extremely expensive, hence regular preservation is required to secure that this systems are more genuine while in use. Mineral insulating oils have a service life of 20 to 25 years in distribution transformer operations. Nevertheless, all insulating oils are unsafe due to dielectric, chemical, and mechanical deterioration, causing the oil-paper insulating structure to deteriorate also the oil's ability to function as an electrical insulator to be reduced. As a result, old-aged transformer oils were subjected to different types of reconditioning and reclamation treatment to extend their operations life. Reclamation is used to treat insulating transformer oils with high amounts of acidity and sludge (regeneration). A short review of the reclamation methodologies applied to treat old aged transformer oils is exhibited in this paper. This review will be useful to scholars and engineers in this area because it presents an overview of latest advancements of transformer insulating oil reclamation systems.
