Summary:Vehicle congestion is a problem in urban centres. The management of vehicular networks allows, through communication between vehicles and vehicles with the infrastructure, the detection of congestion and the dissemination of this information to help drivers change their path to a less congested route. This work describes a congestion detection method and compares it with a method from the literature. Simulations with real traffic data in Belo Horizonte were carried out. The results demonstrate that the method described in this work presents reductions of up to 17% in the average time for vehicles to detect congestion.
