Identifying the Propulsion System Characteristics for a Battery Electric Vehicle

This paper presents two simulation methods by which some characteristics of a propulsion system for an electric vehicle can be determined. Those characteristics refer to the torque, the power required at the wheels, the friction force, the air resistance force and others. Based on these characterist...

Summary:This paper presents two simulation methods by which some characteristics of a propulsion system for an electric vehicle can be determined. Those characteristics refer to the torque, the power required at the wheels, the friction force, the air resistance force and others. Based on these characteristics a traction system that meets the requirements can be chosen. The study was performed on a prototype of an electric vehicle, Vector Model Zero. This paper highlights the results obtained using two software programs, namely Simcenter AMESIM and MatLAB Simulink, known throughout the academic world. The results provided by these software programs are compared at the end of this paper in order to verify their accuracy.
