Summary: | It has been well documented that the high efficiency and high power factor are easily attainable by means of PM motors. For direct-on-line starting the PM motors have been used with an induction cage or can rotor. This paper presents comparison of two different models of Line Start Permanent Magnet (LSPM) Motor for electric vehicle applications. Since the LSPM motor have many advantages like high efficiency, high power factor and inverter less operation as compared to conventional induction motor, it's application in electric vehicles have not been reported in literature. The paper presents two different arrangements of 3-phase LSPM motor using interior permanent magnet (IPM) configurations with squirrel cage for induction starting and having Al canned rotor over IPM rotor. To further validate the proposed solution for application of LSPM motor in EVs, the performance of the motor has been verified by experimental measurements on the motor prototype. |
