Summary:Greenhouses, which enable a controlled cultivation environment, are one of the main facilities used in agricultural production. The environment inside a greenhouse is partly isolated from external environment and there exists various distributions of physical variables, such as temperature, sunshine, gas density, and humidity. These distributions can negatively impact production processes. To decrease these negative impacts, it is first necessary to collect the data of those environmental variable distributions. In this study, we present an I 2 C ® based multi-sensor network that enables high-density sensor deployment. Owing to this wire-based approach, sensors can be easily deployed in 3-dimensional space, including nearby plant stems or leaves without greatly disturbing the plants themselves, and multi-item data of the environmental variable distributions can be easily collected. In this paper, we describe the deployment of this wired sensor network near cucumber plants in a greenhouse, and demonstrate the data collection method and the measurement of environmental variable distributions.
