Summary:In this paper, a compact, mechanically rugged, DC grounded 45° band switchable slant polarized antenna having very low gain ripple in omnidirectional pattern is proposed for MIMO. The antenna is based on the coaxial cylinder structures, which consists of oversize coaxial cylinders, slots and their feeding assembly and a matching unit. The slant polarization property is realized by four angular slots surrounding the axis of coaxial cylinder in the outer conductor. The antenna is having the same structural configuration on both ports. So only changing the feed excitation, different frequency band can be realized easily without any structural modifications so maximizing the volume utilization in a small cell configuration. The antenna is dc grounded which eliminates the electrostatic discharge ESD problems. Simulation results show that the antenna bandwidths are of 8.8% (1.83 GHz to 2.0 GHz) and 8.1% (2.56 GHz to 2.78 GHz respectively for port 1 and port 2, gain variation in the horizontal plane is less than ±0.14 dB while the cross-polarization level is below 13 dB over the whole bandwidths.
