Summary:In order to quantify grade and evaluate the flame retardant performance of solid insulating materials for converter transformers effectively, a 50W flame test method is proposed to test insulating paperboard, epoxy resin, glass fiber reinforced plastics. The test results show that the materials have the highest HB (horizontal burning) rating in the horizontal combustion test, while they are basically unable to be rated in the horizontal combustion test. The research results have important engineering reference value for the selection of insulation materials for converter transformers.
