Summary: | This paper presents the loss comparison of the conventional Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) and Unified Power Quality Conditioner with Distributed Generation (UPQC-DG) configuration. UPQC consists of shunt Active Power Filter (APF) and series Active Power Filter (APF) connected in back to back configuration with DC link. In case of UPQC-DG, a DG (which is PV in this study) is also connected at the DC link. Shunt APF is controlled using Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) technique and series APF is controlled using Unit Vector Template Generation (UTVG) technique. The Incremental conductance algorithm is used for Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control of DC-DC converter interfacing the PV. In existing literature, UPQC-DG is found to be a promising topology to simultaneously compensate power quality issues and integrate DG into grid but the detailed investigation on power losses in different control strategies is found in few literatures. In this work a loss comparison is made between UPQC and UPQC-DG under different operating conditions. Power losses are compared using computer simulation performed in MATLAB/Simulink. |
