Summary: | Electrical power demand is increasing day-to-day due to which the stress on distribution systems is growing rapidly. To cater the increasing load demand the distribution systems are forced to operate nearer to their voltage stability limits because lower voltage stability will restrict the power that can be supplied to the distribution systems. In this paper a simple and efficient method is proposed to identify the buses which are prone to voltage instability based on reactive power sensitivity analysis. An algorithm is developed for optimal location of SVC to improve the voltage profile of the system. The proposed method embedded with SVC is tested on 15 bus and 28 bus radial rural electrification networks. Results obtained from the proposed technique are compared with existing voltage stability index and found to be better. |
