Summary:The corona discharges appear on the surface of the SHB8-400/630-900/12D type double pendulum damper which installed on the 1000kV transmission lines. The audible noise caused complaints from residents. For this reason the structure of the double pendulum damper was optimized to suppress the corona. Using finite method the distributions of electric field on the surface of hammer head under the conditions of simplified simulated layout for the test are simulated. Corona test was carried out to the original structure and the optimized design samples. The results show that the original structure of hammer head cannot meet the demand the corona test, however the spherical pendulum for the radius of 100mm can meet. The recommended result was carried out on the same tower double circuit test line in the UHV AC base and the observations by UVI show that there were no corona discharge occurred. The new pendulum dampers were manufactured and hung on operating lines, there have no corona discharge on their hammer dead and bodies which validate the optimizations. This study can provide experiences and references for the design of anti-corona hardware fittings on UHV transmission lines.
