Summary: | Now the detection of permittivity and conductivity inhomogeneities is an actual task for security systems and surface quality control. A microwave setup for the detection of complex permittivity inhomogeneities is proposed. It is based on the electrodynamical cell based on the metamaterial (the metamaterial cell) operating at frequencies of about 2 GHz. The metamaterial cell is made on the basis of several identical microstrip structures based on a planar photonic crystal. It is shown numerically that such metamaterial cell demonstrates the presence of the remarkable magnitude of its resonance field in the ambient space nearby the cell. This magnitude reaches value more than one and half wavelength, that is very promising for the remote detection of inhomogeneities of the complex permittivity. It is shown numerically that the resonance frequency of the transmission peak in the spectrum of the transmission coefficient of waves passed through the metamaterial cell depends inter-relatively on the constitutive parameters of the body under test and the distance from it to the cell. |
