Summary:High Strength steel is widely used in many industrial productions. However, few information can be available during the machining processes. So, this paper gave an experimental study on the cutting performance of drilling to high strength steel. Conducted by orthogonal design method, the drilling force and surface roughness of high strength steel were obtained by the cemented carbide drill with a diameter of 5mm. The influences of drilling parameters such as spindle speed, feed rate, and hole depth in the drilling process were studied. Results show that large speed and low feed rate can induce better roughness. According to the significant analysis, the feed rate has significant influence on drilling force and the hole depth has no significant influence on drilling force. Meanwhile, the prediction model of the drilling force is carried out. Comparison between predictive value and experimental value reflects that the drilling force can be predicted preliminarily, which provided the basis for drilling and machining of high strength steel.
