Formation of long strain waves in viscoelastic bar subjected to a longitudinal pulse load

A one-dimensional model for the plane longitudinal strain waves in a viscoelastic bar, which is valid for both long and short waves, is derived. This model consists of two coupled integro-differential equations. The model predictions for the largest strain wave are in good agreement with three-dimen...

Summary:A one-dimensional model for the plane longitudinal strain waves in a viscoelastic bar, which is valid for both long and short waves, is derived. This model consists of two coupled integro-differential equations. The model predictions for the largest strain wave are in good agreement with three-dimensional simulation and experimental results on the generation of a long strain wave by an impact on the bar's edge.
