Summary:The physiological response to mental stress is often measured by blood pressure, electroencephalogram, electrocardiogram, and so on. Gastric motility is also affected by mental stress. The electrogastrographic (EGG) signal appears to be a useful method to evaluate the gastric motility as a noninvasive approach. The authors have a plan to evaluate mental stress by the EGG signal, therefore they want to establish a recording method for long term EGG. The aim of this study is to make clear the best position of electrodes where they are not influenced by the posture of the subjects. The authors have investigated the influence of electrode positions and the body posture on EGG. The results of the experiments showed that EGG is valuable in the evaluation of gastric motility together with a frequency analysis of EGG. The best position for EGG recording is to place a set of bipolar electrodes on the long axis of the stomach.
