Summary: | It is very important to use well-designed wound dressing materials for covering moist wound environment absorption of excess exudates, prevention of infection and protection of bacterial invasion, adequate water and oxygen exchange, acceptable mechanical properties, nontoxicity, and cost-effect because wound healing is a complex and regulated physiological process. Recent research has attracted the development of chitosan (CS)-based biocomposites because only single wound dressing material cannot meet the requirements of an ideal wound healing system. This review, therefore, covers how to increase mechanical property, how to prevent bacterial invasion, how to get anti-inflammation and anti-oxidant, how to keep water absorption, and how to have a multifunctional property in the CS-based biocomposites for wound dressing application. Bone defect treatments are the most urgent problem in orthopedic surgery. Recently, the bone tissue engineering technique has been tried as a new therapeutic method to overcome limited bone sources, potential infection and immune responses, biocompatibility, and mechanical properties. This review, therefore, covers how to get appropriate mechanical properties, how to meet appropriate porosity, and how to function, biological properties by the CS-based biocomposites for bone tissue engineering. |
