Summary: | The goal of Chapter 7 is to inspire students to contribute towards systems change via their government. The chapter defines what policy is in an action-based framework. It provides guidance for formulating policy; example happiness, well-being and sustainability policies; and some means for changing an organization to support the creation and implementation of happiness, well-being and sustainability policies. It concludes with action-oriented tips for engaging in policy making
Policy is an action, law or principle undertaken by a government, organization or other entity. Policies affect every aspect of life: education, economic opportunities, ownership, marriage and so on. At school, there may be a policy that cell phone use or eating is not allowed in class. This chapter helps the students to understand what policy is and the role of policy in society and in one's life. It also helps the students to learn about governments creating happiness, well-being and sustainability policy and how to engage in policy making. In most countries in the world, policy is guided by the assumption that happiness and well-being come from a strong economy. Change in the organization of government (as well as any businesses, educational institutions, nonprofits and so on) support consistency in the creation and implementation of happiness, well-being and sustainability policy. |
