This chapter presents an overview about the history of the discovery of Brazilian biodiversity. Brazil is a country with continental size. It is one of the megadiversity countries of the world with more than 40,000 species of plants and fungi. These plant species together with abiotic features compound six biomes: Amazon forest, Atlantic forest, Caatinga, Cerrado, Pampas, and Pantanal. In Amazon forest, deforestation to get wood for timber and paper companies also depicts the forests. The online Brazilian flora will help all people around the world to know the biodiversity of the country as well; it will help the authorities to protect the biodiversity. The agriculture, industrialization and the urban expansion with more than 145 million Brazilians living in its area brought waste and pollution. To prevent widespread misery and catastrophic biodiversity loss, humanity must practice a more environmentally sustainable alternative to business as usual.
