A performance evaluation of the integration of voice and data in a TCP/IP local environment

In this paper the integration of voice and data is investigated for the TCP/IP protocol suits. The various parameters of the connection oriented and connectionless protocols affecting the transmission of the integrated traffic of voice and data are examined. The performance of the integration protoc...

Summary:In this paper the integration of voice and data is investigated for the TCP/IP protocol suits. The various parameters of the connection oriented and connectionless protocols affecting the transmission of the integrated traffic of voice and data are examined. The performance of the integration protocol of voice and data in TCP/IP is analysed and evaluated for a specific configuration and for various loads. This modal is accomplished by mathematical modeling using some aspects of queueing theory and the results indicate the overheads accompanied with connection oriented and connectionless access in the TCP/IP protocol suits.< >
