Intermediate level tools for emissions and immunity: enclosure contents to aperture coupling

This paper presents simple models that can be computed in seconds and give a good estimate of PCB emissions through an aperture in an enclosure. The model is based on computing the coupling of PCB tracks, loops and monopoles to waveguide modes in the enclosure. A simple transmission line equivalent...

Summary:This paper presents simple models that can be computed in seconds and give a good estimate of PCB emissions through an aperture in an enclosure. The model is based on computing the coupling of PCB tracks, loops and monopoles to waveguide modes in the enclosure. A simple transmission line equivalent model is used for the aperture. Results are presented which show that the method can be used to estimate the coupling of a personal computer motherboard to an enclosure and potentially its radiated emissions through an aperture with reasonable accuracy.
