Summary:The development of information and communication technology (ICT) and its use have caused changes in the educational process. Distance learning systems are created with the aim of supplementing the traditional way of teaching with e-learning. However, in order to maintain the educational process in a virtual environment, it is necessary to organize and present the knowledge. The primary bearers of knowledge in electronic learning are learning objects. Through the introduction of the (IEEE) LOM metadata scheme paper aims to present the benefits and disadvantages of metadata scheme and role of libraries in education.
